Blue food, environment and sovereignty

Mathiesen will discuss the importance of aquatic blue foods in the context of health, nutrition and food security.

The lecture will look at the importance of protein, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins and minerals, as well as the environmental footprint of seafood. It will also consider the socio-political and development context, as well as food sovereignty, and address some key considerations to be taken into account when comparing and contrasting the potential of the terrestrial and marine food pyramids.

In this context, Árni Mathiesen will propose some policy recommendations, including for school meals, based on the experience of the Aquatic Blue Food Coalition and other related work.
